Madge

Madge Networks was founded by Robert Madge and became the leading name in Token Ring, the IBM-backed networking standard that competed with Ethernet through the 1990s. At its peak Madge held roughly a third of the switched Token Ring market, and in 1999 it bought Olicom’s Token Ring business, consolidating most of what remained of the technology under one company. Ethernet’s advance proved decisive and Madge filed for bankruptcy in 2003. Tech-Star supplies new and refurbished Madge hardware including SmartLAM Token Ring LAN adapter modules and Smart DeskStream stacking modules for Madge switching systems. Refurbished Madge hardware remains in demand because Token Ring installations still running cannot be extended with new equipment, and a working spare is the only way to keep a site in service.
