Spider Systems

Spider Systems was founded in Edinburgh in 1983 by a group of former ICL engineers and built terminal servers, routers, bridges, network analysers and protocol software, becoming Scotland’s best known networking company and a specialist in synchronous ISDN. Shiva Corporation acquired Spider in June 1995 and the business became Shiva Europe, pairing Spider’s ISDN expertise with Shiva’s analogue remote access products. Intel acquired Shiva in 1998 and Shiva Europe was wound up the following year, so surviving Spider hardware is the last of an independent Scottish line.
