The Nortel break-up: Avaya, Ciena, Ericsson

Nortel entered creditor protection in January 2009 and its businesses were sold separately, so different Nortel product lines have different current owners.

  • 2009: Enterprise Solutions (Meridian and CS1000 PBX, BCM) went to Avaya.
  • 2010: Metro Ethernet Networks (OPTera and OME optical transport) went to Ciena.
  • 2009 to 2010: the carrier wireless businesses went to Ericsson.

Nortel-numbered hardware is catalogued under Nortel, with the relevant acquirer named on the product page. Tech-Star catalogues each part under its original badge: see Avaya and Ciena.
